The most powerful melee weapon in the game This weapon is unlocked if you find David Leatherhoff's axe in the fifth ending and use it to kill a twitcher once. Each swing of the sledgehammer depletes the stamina gauge by a small amount. Not useful for hitting enemies before they attack first. Only avaible in Chapter 6, thus making it have no cons. Commonly found weapon in woods section of the game. Can effectively kill weaker monsters to conserve ammunition.ДЄ misc. Can be used to kill weaker types of monsters quickly, conserving ammunition. Multiple attack modes A quick slash attack, or a slower stabbing attack mode but stronger stab attack. First weapon made available to the player Only the stabbing attacks can be done while dual wielding with it. Putting the blade up lets Simon do a quick slashing attack, while putting the blade down lets him do a stabbing attack- which does a bit more damage per swing at the cost of a noticeably slower swing speed. Right-clicking with this weapon equipped lets him change his attack style. Simon has this weapon on him at the start of the game.

Doesn't affect accuracy unlike other melee weapons. There is one enemy, the Sawcrazy, that will attack any enemies that step in its way when trying to reach Simon.-Moderately fast, but slow compared to other methods. They don't do this on purpose, but their attack patterns are so aggressive that if Simon steps out of their attack range while another enemy steps in it, an enemy can accidentally kill another. In extremely rare cases, the monsters can attack each other. All monsters appear to be working to together, as they will only attack the player. One enemy in particular will wildly fire a glock at Simon. Most of the monsters will simply run up to Simon and strike him, shoot some sort of projectile, attack with their bare limbs or with a weapon, such as a hammer or knife. Their sounds usually consist of disturbing growls, shrieks and screams. The monsters do not speak or communicate in any way, they only attack Simon when he's in view. Many of which have to do with him being a paraplegic. As mentioned before, the appearance of each monster has some sort of relevance to Simon and the horrors of his mind. From walking babies with spikes violently emerging from their heads, to tall walking men with a book for a head, to gelatinous masses with arms and tentacles coming out of it. The monsters come in many disturbing and mutilated forms. This is due to - in the game's 'real world' - Simon feels that the doctor has made his mental state worse, despite the latter trying to help him. Simon even thinks that the doctor is responsible for most or all of the bizarre events and creatures seen throughout the game. This is what creates the monsters seen in the game, as the player sees the projection of his dark thoughts into the forms of these monsters.Дuring Simon's encounters with Doctor Purnell, the doctor falsely explains that the monsters are a result of an outbreak. His counseling doctor gives Simon the idea to write a book on his thoughts and inner demons as a method of going through cognitive therapy. Simon was already going through heavy depression before the accident, so him being in a crippled only worsened his mental health to an unimaginable degree.

Before the events of the game, Simon was walking around the city at night and spots a man lying on the ground, in trying to help the man, he was hit and crippled by a car driving into him and pinning him against a wall.
